My Experience

Over the past 10 years, I have worked as a psychotherapist for the National Health Service (NHS). I also operated as a Clinical Lead at a South London Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Service. IAPT is a programme within the NHS which offers interventions to people who suffer from depression and anxiety disorders across England. I also supervise Counsellors, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists and Rational Emotive Behaviour Psychotherapists.
My research into Postnatal Depression has been published and presented at the annual conference of the Association of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (AREBT). You can find my research
 here.

My Projects

I have designed and run groups within the National Health Service. These include group therapy to help parents recover from Postnatal Depression. This helped parents to develop a balanced lifestyle, to learn relaxation techniques, challenge negative beliefs, improve their confidence and find realistic strategies to deal with the everyday pressures of new parenthood.

The second group I designed and ran was to help people develop their Confidence and Assertiveness. This forum was based on the Hope and Heimberg’s Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Social Anxiety Group, but was expanded to include assertiveness skills. Group members learnt how to challenge their self-critical beliefs, develop self-acceptance, gain confidence and to use assertiveness skills in challenging situations.

I Help Clients Dealing with:

  • Depression
  • Postnatal Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Work-Related Stress and Study-Related Stress
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Social Anxiety
  • Self-Esteem Issues
  • Phobias
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME Disorder)

My Approach

My approach is cognitive behavioural (CBT), but I also draw heavily on the principles of self and other acceptance, derived from Albert Ellis’s Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). I help people to develop a more self accepting attitude to themselves, and to challenge any negative thoughts or unhelpful behaviours that are having an impact on their mood and that interfere with them reaching their goals in life. I teach people about CBT and REBT, so that they can use the skills they have learnt for the rest of their life, becoming their own therapist. I use CBT and REBT myself, and find that learning these skills has transformed my life, and I would like to share what I have learnt with you.

My rooms are located in Central Croydon and in Shirley. I am available via video conferencing and telephone for UK clients. Contact me on 07889 519138 enquiries@londoncognitivebehaviour.com to book a session. My practices are easily accessible via public transport and have nearby parking. My practice is located close to many office complexes in the Croydon area. Clients often come to CBT, Counselling and Coaching sessions over lunchtime or after work.
